Subject: Weird Fuel problem after rebuild...
IP: Logged

Message:
Fresh 3.9 with 500 miles on her

This has happened twice in the last week after leaving my
truck for over 6 or 7 hours...

keep in mind this only happened twice, not everytime
I let her sit for over a period of time and cool down.

She just wouldnt start the first time until about 5 or 6 tries
of turning her over

Its like theres no fuel getting to the motor

This morning it happened again... but this time she wouldnt
start at all!
I had to buy some gas and poor it down the throttle body
to get her running (can doing this hurt anything?)

So I got her running (ran fine) and drove to my mechanic to
see if he knows what could be the problem, he says it might be a
bad fuel pump, or fuel pump relay?

Also when you listen to the motor with the hood up standing in front
of it you can hear a clicking or tapping noise, not that loud but
noticeable, my mechanic said it could be the lifters?
What do you think?

by the way, everything but the motor has 147,000 miles

Please help

Thank you,

Fed

One other posibility that fits. Bad injector....Sticking. This would explain the ticking sould plus a leak down of fuel over a period of time causing hard start. when you start, turn key on and listen for the pump to run, one or 2 seconds. if it run ok turn key off and again turn it on. try doing this 4 or 5 times, maybe more to see if pump presurizes the injectors and truck starts. if it starts, you may still have a weak pump but it tells you there is a posible bad injector to.

So many problems .... So little time

Well i would consider the problem being with the injectors
but they are brand new! ¿ Ford Racing 19 lb. injectors

This morning she didnt act up, but it did take a few more seconds
of holding the key for her to fire up. There is a problem

Thankyou OBIO3 and daddio for the input

Fed... Don't rule out an injector. Even new part can be defective. I'm not questionng your thinking as much as possibley saving you a hunt for a problem that may or may not be some where else. Always go with logic and work your way outbound from there.

So many problems .... So little time
