Subject: AC Compressor Clutch/Pulley replacement IP: Logged
Message: My AC Compressor pully/clutch (99 dakot slt 5.2L) is squeaking like crazy. I don't know how to remove it. It doesn't seem loose or rattle, so I'm guessing the clutch plates just need to be cleaned.
Can anyone tell me how to remove it, clean it (lube it??)
Thanks!

Message: Never did a Dakota yet but all I ever seen had a nut in the center and it took a pully to pull it off. No real big deal . Getting the parts is another story. I have done those that only way to fix was to get a new or rebuilt one. Unfare practic in my book but it has happened. Before you take it apart be sure parts are availabe. If the problem is where you say it is it should make noise disinguaged. If it is the pump bearing it makes the noise inguaged. 40+ years in my own shop and not once did I ever see a cluch that needed to be cleaned. Maybe I was lucky.

Message: When the AC is on, everything in front of the pump becomes one solid part of the rotating shaft. There should be no noise from it at that time. When the pump disengages, the pump stops turning and the outer items become free agents turning on there own beaing . If what you say is correct, your intire unit is gone out. You'll be buying a new/rebuilt/used one. Last rebuild I bought was for a buick. 650 bucks complete. Hope you do better
