Message: Did you try switching to 4 Lo while moving?
My 2004 Dak has to be moving in neutral at about 5 mph to engage properly. Owners manual taught me that. Don't know how I'd get it into 4 Lo if I was stuck in a hole though!

Message: How is the fluid? Should be full to the fill hole, and the right type too.
Then I would start checking the electrics. Did you drive in deep water, muck or brush?
Is the wiring harness on the t.case tight?
After that you may have to get a competent, trustworthy mechanic to look at your t.case gears, unless you trust yourself to do it.

Message: It's reasons like this that I'm glad my 2000 has the old style shifter on the floor. That way I can just put the tranny in neutral and ram her into 4 Low.

Message: If I were doing the job with you, I would get a manual with electrical info, so you can check for power correctly.
Turn key on to run position, not start. Turn 4WD selector knob to 4 Lo, then get under truck. Ground one end of a tester and check wiring connector prongs for power with the test probe.
I don't know what the results are supposed to be without a diagram. What I am suggesting is for you to look for power at the t.case from the dash switch and work back to the switch. Maybe there is even a relay &/or fuse under the dash or under the hood that controls the electric shifter.
If it does come to a mechanical problem inside the t.case, do not attempt to repair it unless you have a good idea what you are doing. I pulled one apart and repaired it once - out in the driveway. An expensive item to screw up.
I was fortunate. Not sure if I would do it again.
