Subject: Check Engine Light/Poor Performance

Hope someone can direct me towards a cure. My 97 3.9 V6 (No mods) has for sometime now been running poorly. It will run like a champ for days at a time and then while driving, lose engine power for 5-30 seconds. Basically feels like the bottom drops out, no matter how hard I press the gas, nothing happens, and then it comes back and runs great. This seems to occur depending on which way the wind blows!!!! My local mechanic could not find anything wrong, because NO CODES were thrown. After driving it like this for some time, it is slowly getting worse and more predictable. The check engine light is also on. Took it to the dealership and they said that I needed a Idle Control Module - which was replaced recently (days ago). They agreed and said it was a stored code. Other then a few maint. issues, they couldnt find anything wrong! They said my battery is corroded and throttle body is diry. But they dont understand my problems, because there were no other codes. Today, I got a code '12' for power loss to the pcm within the last 50 start/stops.

Do I have a short?? Is the PCM going bad? What about a bad o2 sensor? Someone please, help. Looked through the first 50 pages of posts for help and didnt find anything.

Thanks in advanced,
Scott

Coil is a possibility. Poor ground also.
Computer gets ground with single wire , on bracket at
back of alternator. O2 sensor usually affects fuel mileage first and act up immediately after a 'warm'
start.

I was getting poor performance on my 3.9 Dak, then one day the check engine light came on and very intermitantly as i was cruising around 50-60 mph it felt like the engine would cut out entirely for 1-3 seconds then would be full throttle again.
Turned out to be a bad TPS and MAP sensor....check them out before you replace them cuz it was fairly expensive to replace both at once.

Good luck..hope this helps.
