Subject: 45RFE transgo kit - installed IP: Logged
Message: I just finished installing the transgo reprogramming kit for the 45rfe (also 5-45rfe compatible) on my 2000 4.7 4x4 QC.
I am very pleased with the results. Shifts are much quicker and more firm. I have a 3.92 lsd and the improvement is very noticeable. Definitely worth the money and is something I would recommend to those of you who are displeased with the slow / soft shifts for the stock tranny. Significant improvement. I can't say it is as crisp as say a 727 with a shift kit of course, but a very nice improvement nonetheless. The shift quality of my truck/45rfe has been one of my few complaints about it. Unless the computer ‘relearns’ and alters the current shift quality, my complaints are gone. I also changed both filters and used Valvoline ATF+4 for fluid choice.
A portion of the kit isn’t compatible with those of you who run a chip which also alters the transmission programming. However, the valve body mods should still be helpful.
I would be interested if others also have a favorable impression of this kit? How many miles? Shift quality still good? Any other comments?

Message: I think it's about the TMR mod. The Trans-go kit circumvents TMR with a hardware fix and Superchips changes the programming to disable it. I would think that they are mutually exclusive.

Message: The Transgo reprogramming kit for the 45rfe contains a resistor intended to be installed between the line pressure signal wire and ground wire on the line pressure signal sensor connector. This effectively results in an increase in line pressure. Because some programmers implement a similar change, I am sure Transgo errors on the side of caution and recommends not combining the two. Although, there are postings where people have done so. One individual sold his superchips as he preferred the transgo implementation.
Shifting has been fantastic. Shifting is so vastly improved that I have a hard time understanding why Chrysler didn’t engineer it this way from the outset. I am sure their belief is that most people ‘like’ the feel of 2 second shifts under part throttle. Only complaint I have with Transgo is why they didn’t release this 5 years ago!!! : )
