Message: Go ahead, use the mothers and hand polish them or hit them with a flitz. Then go back over them again with good paste wax to seal them up. Because once you've had them awhile you'll notice, stuff that you can just hose right off of chrome bakes right into polished aluminum in no time.
I have polished aluminum AR bajas. You may think it's bad right now but it's only the beginning so get used to it. Wait till you start seeing tiny rust spots and minute surface oxidation forming evey time you let them go more than 3-4 weeks without a wash or a polish.

Message: I've had polished wheel on one vehicle or another over the years. They require a little extra work to look good.
I like mothers polish. A simple liquid metal polish for routine cleaning/polishing works pretty good. If they really get stained, use paste billit polish. I like the Mothers power ball, too.
For day to day care, you'de ne surprised how well Lemon Pledge works.

Message: Mother's is great but it depends on what happened to your wheels. My son wanted to surprise me by washing my truck...which was nice...but he must have used an acid based wheel cleaner on my alum. wheels. It took the shine right off it and left permanent streaks and spots on the wheels. I have tried everything to bring back a shine or at least get the tarnish off but nothing works or lasts. I used the Mother's ball with their alum. polish and it wouldn't touch my damaged wheels. I even used a commercial cloth wheel with a tripoli/clay type stick made for aluminum and it cut through the tarnish but still looked like hell becasue I couldn't get into the detailed areas. I hate to spend another $600 on wheels but I sure hate the way my truck looks now. Anyone know if aluminum can be powdercoated? Good luck with your wheels!

Message: Aluminum can be powder coated - I've even heard of old plastic "chrome" parts being powdercoated too if they are careful to watch when baking, it doesn't get too hot.
Lead, follow, or get out of the way

Message: I made the same mistake on my polished billit wheels once. Used Westleys Bleach White. I had to use Mothers billit polish and some polishing rags to get them to shine again. It was a lot of hand work, but they looked like new when I was done.
