Subject: New cummins Diesels rumored IP: Logged
Message: I have seen postings on the board in the past regarding a diesel / Dakota combination. For those interested, Cummins is rumored to be building two new diesels for Chrysler. Planned release should by 2010. A 4.2L V6, 190 horse, 455 ft lb. Durango, Dakota (as rumored in my local paper). Also, a 5.6L V8, 260 horse, 600 ft lb for Rams (1500's as well).
Cummins has been working with the department of energy for some time on future technology / direction. The 4.2 / 5.6 were used in these studies, so their development is well beyond engineering diagrams!

Message: Like I've said many times, when the Dakota Quad Cab is available with a small diesel, I'll run right down to the dealership and take a close look. Until then, I'll keep my 5.9.

Message: I heard through the grape vine that DC is going
to drop the Cummins all together..
After all, DC in Germany has their own diesel.
Makes sence to me....

Message: Dropping Cummins from the Dodge line would be a bad move. It's the best medium duty diesel engine money can buy. The engine can support a GCWR of 66,000 pounds. No other diesel available in a pickup truck is as stout.
A lot of people buy the Dodge Rams for the engine, it just "happens" to come in a Dodge. If DCX were to discontinue usage of these engines someone else would snatch them up in a hearbeat. Then the Cummins loyalist would buy those trucks.
