Message: Hi Guys,
I am new to the site, and have read about 40 pages worth of posts so far. You guys seem very helpful, and I have already found a lot of the info I was looking for. I have ordered a membership, but am waiting for it to be finalized.
I have a 93 cc 3.9, 4x4, 5 speed that was hit hard in the front end. I just bought a 94 cc 5.2 4x4, auto, with a shot trans. From what I have read it seems the manual trans will bolt in, and I will have to replace the pcm. I know that I will also have to change the pedals and the column. Do I need to change the column or is there an easier way to maybe remove the column shifter?
Is this all there is to it, or am I missing something obvious? Also, as long as I am changing the pcm, can I go with one of the jet performance units?
I am pretty determined that this is the way I want to go, so any help would be greatly appreciated

Message: Not real familiar with your '93; but seen this swap on older cars where somone just drove the pin out that holds the shifter in the column when converting. If the '94 PCM doesn't work, you can find a reasonabvly priced '93 manual PCM at car-part.com. With everything properly hooked up, trip meter should still work. No reason you couldn't use the jet chip too; but its usually not well reviewed on this site - people seem to prefer the mopar performance PCM, superchip or a custom flash. You'll likely need the driveshaft from the donor truck too.

Message: After looking at more posts, I am getting the impression that the function, of the PCM, concering the automatic transmission, in my 94, is to control the overdrive function. If this is the case, couldn't I bolt up the manual transmission, and turn off the overdrive function on the dash, without having to worry about replacing the PCM?

Message: if i understand this right,you want to put the 5spd.from the 93 3.9 v6 into the 94 5.2 v8,
all you will need is a flywheel for the 5.2 to run the crank sensor and maybe the driveshafts from the 93,the pcm will work fine
i just put a pcm from a 93 auto in a 95 5spd.works fine, only the shift light in the dash flickers once in a while, your doing basicly the same thing just in reverse order,if it sets a code for the od and tq lockup put a 200 ohm resistor in the wires for the lockup and od this will fool the pcm to think there still there

Vern, are you saying the flywheels for the 3.9 and 5.2 are different? I was hoping I could use the flywheel from the 3.9. How does the crank sensor work? Are there magnets or something on the flywheel?

Message: I don't have one of those engines, but I know the "Target Wheel" will be different for sure.
That is what gives the pulses to the PCM and the V6 one wont work for a V8 :p
Should be a simple junkyard part.

Message: The flywheels are, if for no other reason, engine cylinder specific. There are 8 windows in the 5.2, 6 for the 3.9 flywheel. These openings are "seen" by the crank sensor. You cannot just add a couple more windows to a V6 flywheel since these are equally spaced to synchronize the entire system. The only way around it would be to use an aftermarket crank-trigger, and that'd cost more, and be more work.

Message: Thanks for all the info guys. This site is awesome. I figured the flywheels would be dimensionally the same . I didn't know about the windows. I know my way around the old carbureted systems pretty well, but EFI, and all the systems that go with it, are new to me. I have made some calls to junk yards, and I think I am on to a flywheel.

Message: I found a manual flywheel to fit the 5.2. The question I have now, is will I have to replace the crank shaft sensor? The reason I ask, is because NAPA's website lists different crank sensors for manual and automatic transmissions.

Message: i dont think so. did you ever think of just rebuilding the auto? it would cost about $1200 at a good tranny shop. i think im getting close to a rebuild myself.

Message: I really don't want the auto, for several reasons. First,I already own a 92 5.2 cc 4x4 auto. Second, the clutch and transfer case were just gone through about three months before my 93 got hit. So they are practically new. Plus, I am an old farm boy. I learned to drive on a manual transmission, and I like them.
