Message: I have a 1997 dakota 5.2 slt. It has 206,000 miles on it. Many
people have told me to not put too much money into it to make it
perform better. I just would like some opinions. Because the truck
is in really, and i mean really good shape. It runs like a freakin'
champ. What should i do? Keep it the way it is until it goes. Or
"sup" it up?
-Thanks

Message: Depends on what you have in mind. 200K miles is a lot.
Big mods like camshaft, intake manifolds, blower, etc are not a good idea. You're sure to break something between the new part and the rear wheels.
But simpler mods like CAI, computer retune, lower rear gear ration, etc, can help the truck run more efficiently and make more power without losing reliability.

Message: Personally, if I had your truck at that many miles and running that
good.. I wouldn't touch the thing.

Message: True. because everyone who drives it loves it and wants it. And it
makes me happy because i love it too. But i was also wondering
whether or not like a new exhaust system or something? would
that be bad?

Message: A bit after that mileage I discovered Gibson makes headers for the V6. Made a big improvment in performance and better MPG.
Today the same engine turned 525,000 miles.
