Message: I was trying to clean the acid off of my battery terminals today and I couldn't get the positive terminal off because the nut is rounded off. Any ideas on how to get it off?

Message: Battery pliers work best and priced reasonable. They work like regular pliers but the bit on the nut increases as you try to lossen. My preferance anyway. When you put the cables back on poor some white karo surup over each one making sure everything gets some on it including the post base. It will get mediam hard and can be removed with hot water. You will never have battery acid again even if your battery is in your truck for 10 years or more. This is the very best you can use and theres never a mess to work through to remove the battery. To work the karo surup in good you might consider using a small 1 inch paint brush. Just wash it out under hot water when done and save for the next one.

Message: I forgot about the battery pliers. Good one! There's also a cable remover that's designed like a gear puller.

Message: Thanks for all of the ideas obio3 where can I get white karo surup? Local car parts store? Also this stuff won't effect the current flow? And once I do actually get the cable off my local car parts store should have a nut to replace the stripped one with out replacing the whoe cable right?

Message: If the nuts shot the bolt is also. Get them at any hardware store and most parts stores. The karo surup will not deminish current flow and it is bought at a grocery store in the surup section.

Message: you can also use soda (like coke) to get rid of battery corrosion. down side is that i can damage paint. Also you can use backing soda and water.
you can buy a terminal cleaning brush. there's 2 types, i like the one with the metal bristles inside, cleans better.
you can buy the whole cable or just the metal connector that actually connects to the battery.
karo syrup can be found in the baking isle (where the flour, sugar, usually cake mixes are at). Karo is the glue for a pecan pie. Yum Yum.

Message: you could use vaseline (for the backyard mechanic) or electrolitic grease, prevents corrosion and helps to get a better contact, power will flow flawlessly. clean the terminals and apply it to both the battery cable and the terminal, leave it there forever, no clean up needed and if you change batteries then put some on the new one. also helps to get better body grounds and prevent them from rusting out.
