Subject: a/c cluth / belt ????

Message:
i have a 98 5.2. The other day after I got a horrible sound on
start up I popped the hood and saw smoke comming from the
a/c clutch bearing. In short, I figured out the length belt for the
truck to bypass the a/c until I get my bearing.(Note: A 5.2 no a/c
belt is to short) .
the question is:

It is okay for me to do this correct, I'm using a xxxxx910 belt so
that its not putting to much work on the tensioner. and just
routed it as though it had no a/c to begin with.
im also curious why if there is no idler in place of the a/c why
the no a/c belt wouldnt work,it was a 885 so the belt im using is
2.5 inches longer.....
