Message: I have replaced the entire exhaust system in the truck. It did nothing but help make the backfires louder. this has been going on for 3 or 4 years and no mechanics I Know are able to find the problem

Message: 2 things cover this problem most of the time. one is improper timing. the other is oxygen getting into the exhaust pipe system igniting unburned gas. the second is the most likely cause. this oxygen can enter anywhere from the valves on down. how ever convinced you are there is no leak, i'm betting there is.
so many problems .... so little time

Message: Do some serious diagnostic work; compression test, leak test and others.
Backfires broke my catalytic converter, the $400.00 one.
My backfiring was caused by warn out valves, along with cracks between the intake and exhaust seats. Needed new heads.
