Message: I fixed mine, but it wasn't easy.
I decided to remove the whole headliner.
It is made of material that looks like compressed fiberglass. It WILL crack.
I took out the rear window, and had to trim a little of the pillar plastic.
Then the headliner slid out thru the rear window area.
I bought some gray felt at WalMart.
Clean off all the old loose material and gunk.
Buy some 3M spray glue. Be sure to get the good stuff. READ the can.
The spray glue needs a good surface so it will stick and attach the new material. So I used some spray sealer and paint that I already had. Several coats.
Cut the material to fit.
Spray the glue according to can directions.
Carefully apply material.

Message: you can buy the haedliner material relatively cheap and then follow zzark's instructions with the spray adhesive.
long ago an upholstery guy told me the reason they separate like that is that its not kept clean. dirt breaks down the adhesives.

Message: Just had mine replaced. zzark has good info posted. I took mine out the driver's door with no trimming or damage to the backing. The liner is cloth on a foam backing. The foam rots with time. A lot of use car mechs told me if I just spray adhesive on the old liner backing the repair will show. Buying a new liner (~$40)+ glue (~$10) on line = the cost of me hiring a pro do it. So I sent it to him, no aggravation here. You may be able to buy the liner at a fabric store for ~$10, but then factor in your time.........
I'm installing mine tonight.......

Message: My Dak is an extended cab, so the headliner is big.
There is no way I could get it out the door without damage.
Maybe the material has changed, but my 94 and the 93 should be the same.
Mine was stiff and brittle.
The reason I used sealer and paint, is the headliner material is rough and porous. So I tried to fill and smooth with the paint.
I did it over a year ago, and it still looks great.

Message: What a PIA to install !!
I expected it to be tight going in, but not like this.......It looks like I have to pull the rear window if I want it to back in the same location. It is off by about 1/2" (by the visors) & I am sneaking it by that rear window seal using my finger.
Not that one!! Well maybe.........LOL
I'm going to wait for cooler weather & when I have more time........Thought I might get lucky.
Using that sealer is a great idea zzark. Hope mine turns out as good as yours........

Affordable, already tested/burnt in, easy on taxes & insurance, Wont't hurt if I scratch them (I do treat them as new) & I enjoy turning a wrench!
The spouse & kids have the new toyz...
