Message: I have bought a Ford F150 and have parked my Dakota. It wont be parked for long though, my Dad is going to put a blade on the front and use it to plow his driveway and for general work around his acreage. I have been coming to this board for years and it has allways been a good source of info when I needed help fixing my Dakota. Just wanted to say Thanks

Message: The Ford is not my first choice in a truck, but I could not say no to this deal. The truck is a 98 F150 shortbox with 48,000 miles on it. I know the guy who owned it and it sat in his driveway most of the time(did not drive it very much). He took the truck to the dealer he bought it from for all its service, so the truck is as good as new.
My Dakota is a 1988 4x4 with a 3.9l and a five speed and has about 200,000(little less) miles on it. It has been a great truck never gave any problems but is starting to get worn out.
I will be buying a Dodge in the future but it will not be a Dakota, it well be a Ram 1500 quad cab 4x4.
As a point of intrest the guy I bought the ford from bought himself a 2003 Dakota quad cab 4x4. Ironic isn't it?

Message: Not a big fan of the 04 and later F150s but loved the 97-03s. My dream truck was always a 5.4 FX4 extended cab in black or bright red. Unfortunately these trucks were not to be had new, equipped like I wanted, and for a decent deal by the time I started shopping late October 2003 and so I ended up with my DAK. May look at a Ram or Titan next. Some Dak owners will rag on you for not having a Dodge right now but I haven't really been inspired to feel brand loyalty lately. My last truck, a Ranger, was nearly 9 yrs old with 107K when I got rid of it and if there had been a Ford within my price Range that was my type of vehicle when I went shopping, I would have stayed a Ford man.
My Dakota is nice and fun to drive but somewhere between the warping rotors, the ball joint recall and the frequent steering wheel vibrations, I lost my ability to enthusiastically say it will get replaced with another one.

Message: I thought of selling the Ford and buying my Ram 1500 quad 4x4 that I want, but I will keep the Ford for awhile yet. I hate to say it but, the more I drive it the more I like it. It handles great, the cab is very roomy and quiet, and the seats a very comfortable to sit in. So far so good. The only thing I don't like about it is the cup holder is a poor set up, can't hold large coffee mugs. I am going to see what knid of after market cup holders I can get.
Super bee why not the 1500? is there problems with them? I have looked at the 2500 but it to much truck for what I need. The only time I ever haul anything is when someone is moving. I just need a daily driver.

Message: sorry for the lateness of my reply if anyone is reading this still,
i said 2500 or 3500 becuase you can get a cummins
i have a QC short box 3500 cummins
i get 18+ mpg on the highway and they are REALLY easy to mod for big power
mine with a chip is much more powerfull than a 1500 hemi, it can pretty much outdo it every class
~365 hp and ~700 lbs tq
how can you argue with that? you easily get 100+ hp extra out of the right chip/chips

Message: Keep in mind that when you juice up a engine
either a Cummins or Hemi to HP in the range of
600 or higher other parts will also need beefed
up like the tranny for starters.
I remember watching "Trucks" a few years ago with
Stacy David. He beefed up a Cummins with all sorts
of add ons. The VERY last thing he said at the end
of the show was; "With all this added horse power
and torque, you're going to have to beef up your
tranny, rear end and replace the brakes for better
stopping power for starters."
Where does it all end?

Message: i know, need alot of parts to hit 800hp
you need alot jsut to hit 600hp on a common rail
right now i have an edge juice with attitude controller in my 03 and it only ever goes to setting 3 out of 5, level 5 adds 100hp but the tranny would not hold up, and it would drain the fuel lines and kill the truck becuase the fuel pump cant keep up
