hey i got a question. my truck is reading 1000 rpm when it's in park any ideas what might be causing this? it also makes a loud noise when started sounds like its a v8 but it's a v6 takes a few minutes to sound normal after driving. the rpm thing stays even after driving though. thanks.

It could be the Idle Air Control Module. IAC for short. Try cleaning yours before you replace it. You can get by with that a lot of the times. If not, they are about $40 at the local parts house. They mount onto the throttle body. If not that, check for vacuum leak.

Could also be the throttle position sensor. When mine went out, it would kick my RPMS up to 2000 and hang there for a bit after cranking. It would idle between 1000 and 2000 rpms. Also was really loud when cranking. Replaced the sensor and all was back to normal.

Another viable option is the IAC as Chris said. Mine is acting up, but I haven't had the money to replace it yet. :)

The loud noise at startup is most likely the clutch fan. My V8 does the same thing when I start it in the morning, and it quiets down after about 30 seconds of driving.

When I start my Dakota V8 it will make a reving
sound as I start driving. I will drive a few feet
and it kicks into normal. This doesn't happen all
the time only once in a while. What's the problem ?
