Message: I thought about putting a dump on mine, but after I swapped the cat for straight pipe on my 01 QC 4.7L, I opened up the pipe to 3" and I'm running a Dynomax Ultra Flow with a turndown before the axle. It does resonate a bit when you start it up and at idle. I gives it a nice deep tone only when you're on the gas and goes away a bit a regular speeds. If you're thinking about a cut-out, there isn't much room to work with between the cat and the original muffler unless you shift thing back, but then you loose the mounting points. It can be done as long as you have patience for working on your back and having the truck on ramps.

Message: I have a cutout on my 5.2 Dakota, between the cat and FM50 muffler. I think it sounds OK, but not as good as a good muffler. I'm going to replace the FM50 and cutout with a glasspack so I'll have a loud exhaust but with a better sound.
