Subject: Reman 5.2L Swap??? IP: Logged
Message: Hello I have an 03 Dakota w/ a v6 but I am thinking about putting in a 5.2L remanufactured engine. The engine comes w/ oil pump, oil pump screen and complete gasket set. Now here is the question... What else will I have to purches and how long will my truck be out of service? Also are there and parts i can use off my V6? Thanks in advance!!!

Message: Almost all the engine parts can be swapped between the 2. With except to, of course, the distributor and some other assorted things:) As for what you need to get: PCM for a 5.2 for starters. If you want to use the original engine wire harness, you need to add 4 wires for the extra injectors, or you could pick up a 5.2 wire harness from a salvage yard. Look at the following post for more info:

If it doesn't fit, force it. If it breaks...well...it needed to be replaced anyway.

Message: depends if its a short block or long block reman.
short blocks have less on them usually the heads are missing, timing chain cover, water pump, sometimes the oil pan and intake
long blocks have the heads, timing cover, oil pan,
valve covers and some have intake and water pump
check with seller for the parts on the reman.
things you may need to check for=heads, intake, valve covers,4 more pushrods and maybe oil pan,5.2 tb tho the v6 one will work you may not get the motors full power with it and like cruzindoug said pcm

Message: Alright thanks for your input you guys. Just one more question. Is a reman engine sort of considered a "new engine"? Thanks in advance

Message: It is basically a new engine...new main/rod bearings, freeze plugs, pistons are new as well as rings/wrist pins, cylinder sleeves are bored/honed/cross hatched. It as close to a new engine you can get without buying a new long/short block. Like vern said, double check to see what all is part of the package first.
