Subject: front drive shaft???? IP: Logged
Message: i had a clicking noise comming from the front of my 98 4x4 and
over the last 2 weeks or so it has gotten worse. I had to take it in
to the dealership to have my state inspection done and they said
that they looked at it and that it is my front drive shaft. they said
there is a joint there that can not be altered i need to buy the
complete assy. so my question is is this thing like a cv built into
a drive shaft or what??? and does 500 dollars sound right to fix it
cuz i can buy one a advance auto parts for 120$ (front drive
shaft assy).
any input help with this is greatly appriciated

Message: Maybe other logic isn't the same; mine says that if somebody installed universal joints, someone else can replace em.
Any certified mechanic (badge with initials on the sleeve) can do the job.
BUT
Maybe the dealer was saying the cheapest fix is a new shaft.
Why not do it yourself?

Message: i bought a used drive shaft assym on ebay...
dropped out the other one and low and behold.... only needed
damn ujoints....
i hate dealerships they could have easily replaced the u joints or
atleast told me that was what was wrong instead of trying to
make 500 off of me
