OK,
Problem: the previously reported fluctuating idle, stumble and occasional stall at idle. AS WELL AS: cruising at highway speed, approaching light, exit, etc. push in clutch, place tranny (5-speed) in neutral, release clutch. At this point sometimes but not always the RPM's will rise to 2000+, if i push the clutch back in the RPM's will drop back down to normal, if i leave the clutch out the RPM's will remain high until I'm almost stopped the drop back down to normal all of a sudden.

So far I've checked for codes, replaced the tps, cleaned the TB and IAC, replaced plugs, checked for binding and sticking in the TB and throttle/cruise cables, ran seafoam through oil, gas, and intake And brought it to the dealer who could not duplicate the problem and said they hooked it up to their diagnostic computer and no codes were showing. Well thanks alot i already knew there were no codes without a diagnostic computer.

Whats next?

starting to get pissed they had to order me another in-dash CD changer AGAIN 2nd one. Both of them basically just stopped even acknowledging there even was a CD mode. the mode just goes from AM to FM. And i have three CD's in there.

SO SO frustrating, i have a set of American Racing Torque 6's new Hankook 275/55/17's and Powerslot rotors w/Hawk pads waiting to go on. At this point i feel like selling the truck and all the crap that goes with it

Please HELP ME

Had the truck at the dealer today,

He hooked the "travel computer" up and off we went. Everything is fine all sensors doing what they are supposed to do. I get the truck to do the neutral-clutch out-high RPM thing a few times.

the verdict: not tripping the "clutch switch" everytime. I tried pushing the clutch in further and sure enough no high RPM's The more i think about this the less sense it makes. He said if the switch is not tripped the truch thinks its still ingear and keeps supplying gas and i guess air through the IAC. After getting back and thinking more about it i told him that usually i can push the clutch in and out all the time in neutral and mak it do the high rev and come back down. So it may be part of the problem but i still think its the IAC. he had data from the computer showing normal movement and mg/min or some rate of flow measurment.

Does the clutch switch (located under the dash) or at least thats where he looked actuall have ANYTHING to do with ANYTHING besides not letting the truck start without the clutch in????

I have another appointment next week to try to adjust/relocate the switch and try a new IAC

High RPM's coasting is normal.
Suspect when you push the clutch in, the circut to slow the engine to allow synchormeshing easier, is made. Let the clutch out- it wants to think it is in gear.

The dealer tried to tell me that. So i asked why it only happens sometimes? And why it never happened on my previous dakota 2000 3.9L 5-speed?

I still can't believe that the "clutch switch" does anything besides stop you from starting the truck without pushing the clutch in.

Well, it also disengages the cruise control. So, yes, it can have other functions.

Good point bob,

So i wonder if that actually could be the problem, Never heard of anyone on any dodge/dakota site ever having a bad clutch switch. the problem is intermittent so maybe it's sticking or binding

If you are bothered by it, replace it.
It is a snap-together plastic jobby. some last longer than others, like brake switches.

We had two Land Rovers. Twins. Identical. The same.

One had a ticking sound.

Point?

You aren't driving your old Dakota.
