Message: I've never used a MagnaFlow but when I saw cut aways at the muffler shop, it's basically a GLASS PACK in a fancy body. There may be more apdding as well since the body is larger. It's a straight through design like a glass pack. It could be pretty loud. But for the money may as well go glass packs. No one will see the chrome muffler under your truck anyway. Save the chrome muffler's for the Ricer's who want to pay $80 for it when a glass pack is $25 or so...

Message: What I'm thinking of doing is having an aluminized one split with a y-pipe, into two 2.5" pipes exiting out the side just before the bumper at 45* angles, into stainless slash-cut tips.
The reason I'm going with the magnaflow is because at the local shops, the glasspacks are only 20 bucks cheaper than the magnaflow I'm looking at, and the magnaflow has stainless packing in it along with the fiberglass. Plus, the magnaflow is shorter so it will fit better where I'm putting it.
I'm heading out to a shop to see what can be done.

Message: Well, I'm going to get a 2.5" SI/DO Magnaflow into 2.5" mandrel pipes coming out the rear sides at an angle. It's more expensive than my first plan, but I want to make sure whatever I get will be good since this is the last of the exhaust mods.

Message: The MagnaFlow should be loud enough for me, after all, it is straight-through and only 14" long. I would have gone with the Flowmaster original 40, but the MagnaFlow was cheaper, and I wanted to try something different since EVERYONE in northern VA has either a Flow (trucks and mustangs/camaros) or a Fart Can (ricers). I'm the first person I know of to use a magnaflow on a 5.2. Most people who have a 5.2/5.9 use Flowmaster, Spintech, etc. A lot of people use Magnaflow on their 4.7's (Flowmaster still has the BEST sound of any muffler). It should sound similar to a glasspack, only a bit quieter. It should be at least as loud as a FM40, but deeper. The cool thing is that the pipes will be custom mandrel bent so I can keep my spare tire under there.

First impression, it was too quiet. But after driving it for a couple hours, I can tell the packing is beginning to break in. I've heard that these will get a lot louder as that happens. Anyways, It has a very destinct RUMBLE to it. I mean, when it's idling with both windows down, you can feel it pulsating like subwoofers. I had my dad rev it while I stood back from the behind, and it actually sounded like an old 70's mopar! That was exactly the sound I was going for. I've posted some pics in my DTW gallery below:
