Subject: help diagnose front end clunk IP: Logged
Message: I feel a clunk from the front end passenger side when I make moderate-to-hard left hand turns. It never clunks in the front driver side, and it never clunks on right hand turns. It's always a single clunk, and it doesn't really feel like a grinding. I feel it through the pedals, but it is also loud enough to be heard by anyone in the truck.
Is it the wheel bearings or something to do with the steering (tie rods)? I shot some fresh grease into every zerk in the steering mechanism that I could find, but the problem is still there.
I can usually fix any problem as long as it's been identified, but we just had a baby so I don't have the money to perform 'exploratory repairs.' Thanks in advance.
1999 Dodge Dakota 318 ext cab 4x4
- fixed belly pan gasket with Hughes plate and Felpro gaskets
- replaced upper and lower ball joints with Moogs
- recently replaced both u-joints on the front drive axle; plus other repairs and maintenance elsewhere than the front end

Message: Get thr front end up in the air. Then grab and shake each component. That should revela the problem.
Could be anything from a wheel bearing to an inner tie rod end.

Message: I sorta have that same problem...If i brake kinda hard after accelerating i hear a clunk in the pass side and i feel it in the steering wheel and in the brake pedal. I can feel it in the steering wheel sometimes accelerating also. Had a couple people point to the upper control arm bushings so when I get them in i will hope that was it. The problem came on kinda sudden also.
