Message: You're better off buying a class five (5)
hitch set up. One that bolts to your frame with
receiver.
Wal-Mart sells them or use to.

Message: I have a hitch that came off an 02 QC I think. Friend left it for me when he moved to NY. I'm near Atlanta Georgia, if you're ever down this way, you can have it.

Message: Id imagine a class V has a MUCH higher towing limit than anything it would ever be safe to pull with our trucks. My Reese class IV was 149$ from Pep Boys before tax and install, but I got it for 119 because the whole transaction was screwed up and I ended up with a nice 30$ discount. The class III Reese is about 120$ through them. But if you get it, make sure to specifically ask for Reese product number 36047. It has 5000 pounds weight carrying capacity and 6000 weight distribution capacity, meaning it will not limit the maximum real-world towing capacity of most Dakotas. Reese offers a lower-rated class III hitch numbered 44102 which is a piece of junk with no more towing capacity than a Class II unless you get weight distribution equipment.

Message: Yes, I'd agree. Some of the non-quad cab v8s have a slightly higher towing capacity than what most class III hitches will handle if you're only talking about one average-weight driver and zero cargo in the truck in addition to the trailer. For those trucks there's the class IV, even though most class IVs I've seen only get into the 7000 pound rating range with weight distribution equipment. Only seen class Vs advertised for full-sized pickups.
