Subject: HELP: ABS and BRAKE warning lights on!!? IP: Logged
Message: I read the post a little ways down about the ABS/BRAKE dummy lights on and the speedo not responding. My ABS/BRAKE lights just started coming on last night, but my speedo works fine. Could this be the speedo sensor mentioned in the other post too? Or should I look for something else? Could it simply be the brake pads (rear shoes were getting down there last time I checked, ~6 months ago)? The lights come on while I'm driving and not using the brakes. Thanks in advance!! Oh, I have an '02 quad cab, AWD/4WD, 4.7, disks(f) & drums(r).

Message: There is a thing called a "tone ring" at each wheel that is included in the ABS system. A sensor reads the grooved wheel as it's spinning. A lot of the time what happens is you may have just spun a tire and it come on. I see it happen every day. Reset the PCM by taking the positive terminal off the battery and cycle the ignition switch 3 times. This most of the time does the trick if it's nothing wrong.

Message: Chris, the lights are not on each time I start the truck. They come on a short time after I get over 35~40mph. Is this the same behavior you see when it's just the tires spinning?
Also, should I be cycling the ignition 3 times with the battery disconnected, or after I've disconnected for a while and then re-connected?
Thanks!

Message: No, if it was set off by spinning the tires and "fooling" the ABS system into thinking there was a wheel that was locking up, it more than likely would stay on all the time. As for question #2, do it while the battery is disconnected. This drains whatever current is left in the ECU so that the computer is reset when you put the cables back on the battery.

Message: Look at your other post, the post by Lurkin gives symptoms of a bad clock spring, see if you have those symptoms.
