Subject: A/C clutch IP: Logged
Message: Ok I've switched my A/C clutch relay with the other relays and checked the fuse inside the truck and neither seem to be bad. I haven't checked to see if connections are bad but does anyone have any idea what could be wrong? My A/C does not kick in at all...my clutch doesn't engage ever as far as I'm aware. I turn the A/C on and I look at it, and nothin. '00 CC 4x4 3.9

Message: Is there Freon in it????? Low pressure switch will hold the compressor out if not enough or no gas in it. You need to put on some gauges on the system. If its short of gas, you have a leak!!!

Message: Checked the low pressure side and it seems to be fine. I'm hoping it's a wiring thing and not the clutch or the whole compressor...really dont want to spend the money on that right now, waiting to go on leave here in a couple weeks.

Message: Ok I read somewhere on here that I can take a wire from the positive terminal on the battery and to the positve wire to the AC clutch with the truck on and my clutch should engage if it's working. Which wire is poitive? I see that there's 2 wires goin to it but I can't see anything that indicates that ones pos and the other's neg. I'm guessing my clutch is bad anyways because it used to cycle on but never stayed on and now it just doesn't engage. Not sure if it's a short or open in the wiring or what not though.

Message: Pull the connector off the pressure switch and jump it out with a piece of wire and see it the clutch engages.Jump the connector with the wires not the switch.Don't let it run but long enough to see if it engages. If it runs you are low on refrig.Sounds like that is probably what the problem is.

Message: If I'm low on refirigerant why would I get normal readings? I hooked my can up to it and it wasn't flowing in or anything...is there something I was doing wrong? Shake can, put it upside down and it should go into the compressor. I'll try jumping the pressure switch...hopefully that'll work. Thanks.

Message: Normal readings would be about 35 psig suction pressure with the compressor RUNNING. If its not running, you'll never know what the normal pressures are.
Pressure/temperature has a lot to do with all of this. If your can or 134A is the same temp as the refrigerant in your truck, it will not flow into it without the compressor running to "suck" it into the system. Warm the can under some hot water for a few min. then hook it back up.

Message: Ha...yea I kinda want my AC. Easy solution though. Well I'm going to try to short the pressure switch to see if my clutch will engage and if that doesn't work I'll try warming my can up with some hot water. Thanks
