Subject: Rough Running IP: Logged
Message: I have a 99 Dakota CC with a 5.2 L. 4x4. I replaced the distibutor cap and rotor and it ran good. Then in about 5000 miles it started running rough again and I took it to the stealer and the cap and rotor was burned terrible from arcing. Wondering what would cause a cap and rotor to be severly burned after so few miles. Please help.

Message: is your ignition stock? high voltage/multispark ign systems will put some wear on the rotor & cap. especially if you use the cheap stuff with aluminum inserts.
if you haven't yet buy a cap & rotor w/ brass inserts. o'reilly's has Borg Warner or go to NAPA.

Message: When I put the cap and rotor on it was an Autozone. I also out on pluug wires from Autozone and Champion truck plugs. When it started to run bad again I took it to the stealer and they said that the plugs were the wrong ones even though they were the right champion number and the cap and rotor were burned. So they put mopar parts on it and it ran well again but now it is running poor again and think the cap and rotor may be shot again. Will a weak ignition coil cause this? Thanks
