Subject: Transmission Filters IP: Logged
Message: Guy's: I have an 02 3.9L CC w/auto trans. I've been reading on this site that the tranny has 2 filters. 1st time I changed the fluid I only saw and changed the 1 filter you get in the Purolator trans filter kit. Does the 02 auto trans have 2 filters? If it does, where is it? What type is it (ie spin on, screw in, etc) and where do you purchase? Thx guy's.>>AJ

Message: I take it this filter is very small? Is it close to the front of the tranny where the dip stick goes down into the pan or is it closer to the rear? No Autozone close to me in NJ but I'll check NAPA. What do you call this filter to differentiate it from the flat tranny filter? Thx in advance for your help!

Message: The 45RFE has two filters. You have to drop the pan for access to both of them. One is a big flat thing that is a real fibrous filter, not just a screen, and the other is a small spin-on just in front of it over toward the passenger side in the corner area. It's unpainted.
Go here and look at page 2, numbers 41 and 42.
