Subject: front end problem? IP: Logged
Message: Hi I drive a 99' 5.2 4x4 dak and I was wondering what my be causing my problem with the front end of my truck.. its got 115k on it for miles and the front tires sit like this / \ just not that bad but noticibly and it is wearing out the inside tread of my tires badly. My truck dosn't drive bad the alignment is off a bit but other people are telling me its not that, its something bigger than that doing it but I dunno' Could it be wore out shocks, torsion bars? I dunno' what it is but its killin my tires any info on this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Message: Probably bad ball joints with a little worn wheel bearings thrown in. Check for excessive play with wheel jacked up.
If it doesn't fit, force it. If it breaks...well...it needed to be replaced anyway.

Message: 4X4 Daks and Durangos have problems wirh failing ball joints. With your milage it is a very real possibility. don't delay a minute in checking it out as there have been cases of wheels falling off when the ball joint failed. Would be disasterous at freeway speeds possibly causing a rollover or death. should be under the ball joint 100,000 mile extended warranty that chrysler gave because of the failures.

Message: Definetly check out the ball joints to make sure that they are not worn. Also, is your truck lifted by chance? I am wondering because if the torsion bars were cranked in order to lift the front, that could cause an excessive negative camber issue. Whether or not your rig is lifted I highly recommend you have your alignment checked by a reputible shop, if your ball joints are okay and your truck isnt lifted, than fixing the neg camber will be a fairly easy thing for a good alignment tech.

Message: Yeah my truck is lifted but its only a body lift and its only been on a week. My tires have been like that for a while and I havn't messed with the torsion bars. I was wondering how much a set of ball joints costs. But yeah I put a 3 inch body lift on it and I havn't put on bigger tires or anything yet. So its pretty much stock except for the dual exhaust.
