Subject: Unhappy with the front end on the Dakota IP: Logged
Message: have you guys done a full front end rebuild on your Dakota? i have 157k miles and i have had to replace the ball joints, rack-n-pinion, wheel bearings(my fault), & bushings. not sure if that is normal for dodges because i have to other friends with the near the same amount of miles and their trucks still feel solid.
I will admit this truck has been air-born a few times, but so did my Toyota. the Toyota i had had the same amount of miles and was 20years old and it felt more solid than the front end on my dodge.
i guess my ? is...have you had the same problems with your dakota?

Message: ON my 2wd, QC, 01, I'm happy w/ it. I had the BJ's replaced last week, @99K miles, before the ext warranty expired. It still felt solid.

Message: Well, aside from the known Ball Joint issue, there is no real telling how your truck was treated before you owned it. Also, you can't really compare a Dak to a Toyota. A Toyota is practically a beer can on wheels (very light) and the Dakota is a lead brick.

Message: ..97k on a 92 Dak.5.2L 4x4 and only had to replace lower BJ's. seen lots of 4wd general utility usage on a ranch and would stay in 4 wd all winter.

Message: i will have my truck back together tomorrow with the new bushing in. i hope this fixed the problem..? one ball joint is moog the other duralast (both look the same, just the duralast is $20 cheaper) both of the ball joints have tie-rod end boots on them because of the crappy ones they give for the bj's rip in 5k miles.
Yes, the toyota is a mail box on wheels. i would have kept my toyota had the motor not burned a qt every 35miles!!!!!

i should have looked in my side mirror and my friend shouldn't have parked with 2ft of his truck hanging over my driveway.
