Could be any number of things...clockspring, air bag module, wires harnesses, air bag sensors, air bag, etc could be faulty. Have you done anything around the steering column or dash area lately? How about the rest of the truck?

If it doesn't fit, force it. If it breaks...well...it needed to be replaced anyway.

What year? I remember seeing a TSB out for daks (I can't remember what year) where the clockspring was faulty and/or broke.

My bet would be either the clockspring circuit is open, or you have pitched/shorted/open
wire(s) in the steering column. I am no way an expert on this system, but I have replaced/repaired a few, so I would get this double checked with either the stealership or a shop. If you don't want to, they are easy to replace. First DISCONNECT the battery. Take the 2-4 screws (normally torx) that hold the airbag to the steering wheel. Carefully pull the air bag off, disconnecting the horn wire and 2 wire plug from the back of the air bag. Remove the nut that holds the steering wheel on and firmly "jerk" the wheel off (or you can buy a puller) but becareful with the air bag wires. Clockspring sits right under that. While your are at it, inspect the column harness wires for chaffing or missing insulation.

If it doesn't fit, force it. If it breaks...well...it needed to be replaced anyway.

Insert Key. Turn it off.
Seriously, be careful to do it right. Airbags are really expensive.
