Tiger,
Even if you are serious, and that is a real method, it is more expensive than engine cleaner, designed for the job.

1 bottle of auto-rx is about $28, delivered. The bottle is 12oz and for your first treatment you would use only 8oz.
I bought 2 bottles because I plan to run 2 courses of it, then switch to Amsoil or Royal Purple and add 2 or 3oz of auto-rx to that.

I heard of the tranny fluid/ engine flush thing before, too. I never heard great testimony about it, though.
I will post when I finish my first run of auto-rx.

You can also run some Seafoam through one of the vacuum lines. Keep the engine idling above 2,000 rpm's. Pour the Seafoam into a bowl. Then run a long hose that fits onto the vacuum on one end, and dip the other end into the bowl of Seafoam. Do that every couple of seconds. The rpm's will drop for a short moment, then it will recover and go back to the high idle. Then repeat that until all of the Seafoam has been sucked into the vacuum line. A whole can of Seafoam will take about 5-10 minutes total.

You will see a LOT of smoke coming out the exhaust. That means that it is cleaning out the engine. I've done this twice.

I know some people will do the same thing, but will use distilled water. This way, their engine gets steam cleaned.

Change the oil and filter after doing this procedure, as lots of unburned stuff will get dislodged inside the engine.

I did the transmission oil flush and fill before. In my old 95, gas milage dropped to < 15 no matter how I drove. I changed the oil, replaced with 1 qt transmission fluid. ran 500 miles, changed oil and filter. filled with all oil. Ran 500 miles and changed oil and filter again. I did this under advice from a mechanic at a local shop (which is the shop I now use for any work I can't do myself). Ran a long highway trip and mpg was 23mpg.

Then I was in pepboys looking a tires and saw they offered an engine flush service. The run warm cleaing solution in filter port and vacuum out pan. I was told they "removed alot of sludge". The machine they use is made by billstein.

I've made several references to this in the past.

I recommend this service. I guess all of those years of running dio oil caught up. since then, I did this service yearly. 95 SLT CC 4x4 3.9L got 17-18 mpg combined and up to 25 mpg highway.

Since I first go this service done, I run seafoam in every oil change.
