I've had a '03 Dakota 4x2 for 3 years now, LOVE the thing. However, I recently noticed a weird noise coming from what seems to be the left rear tire. Whenever I am making a slow left turn I hear a low-pitched oscillating "moan" that gets faster/slower with my speed. It's hard to explain exaclty what it sounds like. Any ideas on the cause??? Thanks...

Disc brakes? If so, that's probably the cause. Might just need to resurface the pads and rotor, and use Disc Brake Anti-Squeal to the pads.
If it's drum brakes, then it's probably a carrier bearing. Check the axles and drive shaft for free play.

Who knows, I had a very loud whining noise that I swore was my rear gearing or bearings. Turns out to be the left front wheel bearing. Sound resonates throughout the truck. I was sure it was in the back.
Maybe you can jack the assend up with jack stands and try to hear it.

Perhaps is as simple as changing your rear end fluids. If you have the limited slip there is an additive who's life may be used up.

I agree with RaZoR1
I had a similar sound from my 9.25 axle. I had the fluids changed and have had no strange sounds since.
Give it a try (If you haven't had the differentials fulid changed) it's a quick and cheap fix.

Diff fluid change deff. won't hurt! Thats what I thought with mine, but ended up being the front wheel bearing.
