..rather disapointed over the lack of representation of Dakota's in the 415.408,650 area code in Calif.went to look at new 2006 Dak's and found only a few 2wd and no 4wd models to look at.The dealers aren't stocking them. The only way I can get a 4wd/v8 HO Dakota is to factory order one. But see very few late model Dakotas on the road (calif). Does any body know how the overall sales of 2006 Dakota's are compared to others?? I own a 1992 V8 5.2L 4wd Dakota clb cab and it's been a good truck but looking to replace it with a similar 2006 4wd model.

Actually what you are experiencing is much the same here in Georgia. For kicks and grins, I looked at a few of our Dodge dealers around here and they had very few, if any 4wd models. A lot has to do with location I am sure, but it is still a bit of a surprise. I think the 06 sales are lacking quite a bit compared to previous generation models. They just aren't as appealing or as rugged (tough) as previous models. I'd imagine that if sales of certain trims aren't selling too well, they will not carry it and, instead, carry trims that do sell more regular. You'll probably just have to custom order it from the factory... all-in-all not a bad idea though since you'll be able to get exactly what you want.

No new daks here in the Seattle area either, and that is a place

I saw one of those Mitsubshi Raiders yesterday.
From a distance and from the sides and rear it looks OK, but from the front it looks like somebody punched it in the face.

Whoooaa, I totally forgot about the Raider...

And I have not seen ONE of them on the road, anywhere...

I guess this new dak platform is a real hit ;)

Is the main designer for the genIII dak the same that did the gen4
dak?

..I very much like the body style of the 2006 Dak.and the 4.7L HO looks like a strong motor. Just sad that Dodge is doing such a terrible job of marketing/promotion.

When I went looking in Jan for a new truck, I had a hard time finding any 4wd vehicles. I specifically was looking for a dakota CC or QC. I also entertained the idea of an older (dakota body style) durango. Alot of dealers tried to sell me S-10s, tacomas, 4 runners, etc. Many were not even 4wd! I did take a newer (can't remember year) 4 runner 4x4 for a ride for the hell of it. That thing rode worse than my first truck an 85 ranger. The brakes were horrible. I asked the sale guy if this vehicle had been inspected since he told me it had just came in (no window sticker in it). He told me it had. I told him to take it back to the shop because the brakes were way to soft (had to almost floor it for it to start catching).

I found 2 dealers out of 13 (I checked every local dealer, dodge or not) that each had 1 dakota 4x4 in stock. The 02 QC I bought and an 00 CC. The 00 CC I found at a GM / Pontiac Dealer and was a 5.2L. I did find a few durango's. Before I could see them all, I test drove the dakota and decided on it.

I was told by several dealers that it was difficult to find a used 4x4 during that time of year. Oh yeah, I live NW atlanta Ga.

We've got a bunch here in East Tennessee. Everyone drives 4WD's here. Very few 2WD trucks around. Rural, mountains, snow, mud. You get the idea. I can check in Knoxville west of here and a bigger city and they have no 4WD's. You see alot of Dakota's around here, mostly the old style. The new one doesn't seem to be that popular and I've checked at the dealers a few times and never seen an HO on the lot.

they don't seem to be too popular here in the deep south. DC dealers don't have many Dak's but man do they have the Ram's. the local Mitsu rep is not having any luck selling theirs. they are even offering $5k off the sticker to try to unload some. and i haven't seem any of them on the road yet.

There are 8 years worth of '97-'04 Dakotas out there, and under two years of '05-'06's, so at most I'd expect to see a quarter as many new ones. Sales also were frequently higher during the previous model run due to all kinds of factors (like $1/gallon gas in '99...)

Use the Dodge web site, build your truck, then search inventory. I found my '05 SLT QC 2WD, 4.7, 6-speed, khaki leather, 6-disc MP3, black sport appearance pkg. at a dealer 550 miles away. Take the printout to any dealer. If he wants your money, he will go get the truck.

Don't forget any organizations you belong to that have fleet buying programs.
I saved a couple thousand bucks buying through the Amway program. Would have saved $4,000.00 with the Costco plan, except Dodge wouldn't build the 1500 Ram the way I wanted it. Good thing. Prices are lower now, two years later.
Costco not only has fleet buying but also financing on new and used vehicles. They'll re-finance what you have.

I just bought a 2006 Dakota 2wd 4.7 magnum. I live in South Central Texas. My experience in buying the truck was kinda strange. First the 4x4 model looked "wimpy". I got the 2wd because i wanted the 17" tire and rim package. Secondly i could have bought a 2005 ram for the same price. I paid $25,000 for my dak. I get the same fuel milage as the ram and paid just as much. We are starting to see more and more of the new daks on the road down here but no 4x4. Strange since noone down here will hardly look at a truck if its not.

Here's one I never seen coming. My Dakota is a 99 4x4 CC SLT Bought new and loaded except for fog lights. Dodge fogers are total junk. Put my own in. But Here's a story for ya. My dealer is one of the really great ones. Does a lot of things for free that comes right out of his own pocket. Surprise surprise. He dumped Dodge mid 2005. Now this is a really big dealer. He also has VW, Hyonda?, Niesson?, Murcury/Lincoln. and Honda. Remember, this is a really good friend. On a visit he stated he dumped dodge because sales fell badly in 2005. Warrenty work on the other hand went sky high. The warrenty work was good for business but he was losing customers fast. Long time repeat customers telling him they bought there last Dakota. He Also said the neison trucks were rock solid. More comfert, better ride a more power. to top that off they was outselling Dakotas 3 to one. Don't forget, he was making lots of money on the warrenty work but long haul told his savey of car business you either sell things people like or you go out of business.
Don't get me wrong. I love my 99. I'm going to drive it till I die. My reasoning there is simple. I wouldn't give 10 cents for one of the new ones. On the other hand my 99 is basicly trouble free.

So many problems ... So little time

The Raider is alot like the Pontiac Aztec. If you could get over having to look at it every day you could probably get an incredible deal on one but most people won't take something so ugly, even if it's dirt cheap. Kinda like bangin a 350 pound girl. It's gotta take a long-ass dry spell before you even consider it, you gotta be desperate, and you still cringe if your friends see you with her.

I don't know why sometimes manufacturers decide to built vehicles so ugly that they have to be sold at a loss. But I guess you can't look a gift horse in the mouth.
