Message: I have a 94' Dakota and it has been running fine until yesterday at first it was kind of hopping then all the gears went out of it. A little while later I tried and the gears came back for about 10 secs and then quit again. After changing the tran filter and fluid it will go in all the forward gears now but when I put it in reverse it will completely quit 5 out of 6 times that I do it. Does anyone have any clue what might be making it do this??? any advice would be great :)

Message: On the presumption it is an automatic, solenoid failure.
Have your friendly transmission guy look at it.

Message: The '94's do not have electronic solenoids, except for the OD/converter solenoid. You could have a valvebody malfunction, but more likely, a direct clutch failure.

Message: ..friction material may have come off one of the bands and fouled the valve body. That's what happened to my 92 Dakota. I had the trans rebuilt.

Message: Hellooooo. I addressed that very question in my previous entry. It is a single solenoid that powers both the overdrive and the lockup function in the torque converter. If you have overdrive, it's not the solenoid. It may be a valve body malfunction, torque converter lockup clutch malfunction, or (less likely) a broken band or other component. Start with the torque converter.

Message: ..the OD pushbutton lamp burnt out on my 92 Dak.long ago and it would be nice to get it going again. Anybody here ever replace the bulb?? Do I have to pull the dash apart to get to it?? And how about a LED replacement rather then a filament blub??

Message: They both take 14 bolts. Most likely, you have the smaller A-500 derivative, also known as the 40RH/42RH/42RE/44RE.
