Message: Irritating electronics are taking control of MY truck...
I have a love hate relationship with my 2000 Dak Quad 4X4. What irritates me to no end is the electronics which usurp control over my own vehicle by automagically locking all 4 doors after I start down the road.
When I'm hunting I fold up the back seats and put my rifle in the case on the floor. I drive down the trail just a bit and get out to get my gun and the back door is locked so I have to reopen the front door to unlock the back door. I then get out and look around and conclude that I should go to the next ridge about 500 yards further up so I throw the weapon in the back, start up the truck and park at a good spot, get out of the driver's seat and attempt to open the back door only to find out the damn thing's locked again.
Then there's the time when I'm off road and the snow is gettin' rough so I decide to put on the chains. I suit up, get out, go to the back door and it's locked again. Then I chain up, drive a bit and stop to check the tension on the chains and see they need adjustment. It's windy and bitterly cold so I need my heavy duty gloves in the back. Again I go to open the door and stupid thing is locked AGAIN!
This morning, it's a nice bright sunny day here in the Montana North country and I'm dropping my son off at school because he has an early morning band practice. He gets out to get his trombone in the back then I hear a knocking on the window... "Dad... the door's locked." DAMN!
Repeat this scene several times and my frustrations build to rage at the engineers who think they know better than I as to when my doors should be locked. The f***ers have taken away a choice that should be mine alone. Up here in the great outdoors of Big Sky Country it's not like we need to be concerned about carjackings.
When I'm out hunting I'll be driving along just waiting to hear that click which indicates the truck has locked the doors on me again at which point I immediately hit the button to unlock them. It's become a cat and mouse game when the truck unlocks the doors and I say, "Oh yeah? Take that!" and I hit the unlock button a little harder. Sometimes I don't hear the click. Sometimes I just forget to overide my truck's decision to overide my prerogative to decide when the doors should be locked. I can just imagine that one of these days I'm going to be out hunting and come across a big, once in a lifetime trophy elk where time is of the essence to get off the shot and I'm going to hurry to quietly retrieve my rifle in the back and my own vehicle is going to sabotage me by locking that damn back door without my permission again then I'm really going to be pissed. I can just see myself with my 12 gauge shotgun blowing the f**kin lock off that damn door.
Okay, that rant hasn't really helped me to feel any better. I'm a computer geek by profession so I expect machines to OBEY me. I want to have control over my truck's electronics. I'm looking for a way to disable this auto-door-locking "feature." I swear if I can't take back control of my doors I'll trade the damn thing for an old beat up Jeep with no electronics!

Message: Stop ranting, start searching. The auto locking "feature" can be disabled.
Can't remember what the steps are though.

Message: Me too - some brands, you can't even get the manual stuff anymore.
Like Lurkin says, instructions for this are in the manual.
Lead, follow, or get out of the way

Message: Well on my durango it only unlocks the driver door - if you want to let passengers in or get something out of the back seat you have to hit the 4 door unlock on the drivers door. and you can't open the rear door without doing this unless you are double jointed and reach over the front seat to manually unlock the passenger door. But I guess you'd have to do that with no power locks too. lol
