Well I'm sure you've checked your belt/belts. Depending on the yr and make of vehicle you will have one serpentine belt or several. If the belt/belts are intact and the power steering resevoir is full, it must have been some connection that has come loose. Just seems if a hose connection broke or came loose you would lose fluid and it would be noticible.

Then you should have just one large serpentine belt. You will know if it's there or not. Without it your alternator won't work or you power brakes. Maybe your pump has gone out. Anyone know what can cause power steering to go out besides losing a belt or low fluid? Does the pump have any kind of electrical connector that could have come loose going over a bump?

there is a pressure switch on one of the hoses coming from the pump.

jerry, why would losing the belt cause your power brakes to go out? unless you had hydro boost for the brakes?

ok, i'm not sure about power brakes. I know power steering is run by a belt as I lost it in my 77' GMC when a belt broke. I figured power brake pump is run by a belt too. I know the serpentine belt works a lot of stuff like AC, fan, alternator and power steering. That's why I carry an xtra one in case the belt breaks I'm not left between a rock and a hard place. lol

At least that isn't the vile personal attacks we've been witnessing.

Stevedak,
I presume you carefully checked for something pulled loose, bent or broken.

Jerry,

Power brakes are run via the master cylinder which operates off engine vacuum via the vacuum hose going from the intake manifold to the master cylinder.

I don't know of any non-commercial factory new truck sold in the USA that has power brakes that run off a belt on the engine.
