Subject: door lock, plugs IP: Logged
Message: two questions here. first, i have a worn lock actuator and instead of paying $130 just for the part from the local dealership i found a local guy that stocks aftermarket actuators for $25. the problem is that he says he has to convert from 5 wire to 2 wire to make it work but the parts and labor for it are $100. should i be concerned or does this sound like a smart move to save some money?
Second, i'm just wondering if any of you have recommendations for new plugs if it matters very much.
As always thanks for any input.

Message: Try another dealership for the part. The power lock actuater is part of the door latch, so far both the left front and left rear have gone bad on my 02 QC. Each latch was about $65 from the dealer. You have to take the door panel off and have a bid torx to remove the latch, and be a contortionist to release / re-install the latch / lock rods. Overall it isn't too bad though. One word of warning, there is a handle adjustment screw on the latch that you need to tighten before closing the door or the outside handle doesn't work (it's accessible from the jamb so it isn't hard, just took me awhile to figure out). Hope this didn't come way too late to help.
