Message: so i get the low fuel indicator to come on, drive another 10-15 miles or so and then i go fill up. everytime it only gives me about 18 gallons max and my build sheet says i have a 24 gallon tank. is the light really coming on with that much fuel left? this is probably normal but it seemed odd to me. any thoughts?

Message: I have an 02 quad cab 4x4. The QC's I believe only came with 24 gallon tank.
My low indicator light comes on at around 6 gallons left.
I think it has to do with how the tank and sender sit in the tank. I changed the pump on my old 95 and it started coming on around 4 something gallons left and used to be 2 something (1/8 tank).

Message: The light comes on with that much fuel in the tank, because the fuel pump is gasoline cooled. It needs a certain level of fuel to be cooled properly.
You can probably go for quite some miles after the light comes on but it will shorten the life of your fuel pump.
