Message: I just felt like posting how interesting it still is that I literally find no
05 and newer dakotas driving around here. Rams, there are tons of,
and pretty much every other single type of new truck of all types
are all over, but no new daks... I hope this is a wake up call for
Dodge and the dak... any place I can find the sales for this
worthless looking and performing truck?

Message: Man, you pose a great point. I don't see any Dodge Vipers driving around, but I see tons of Honda Civics. That clearly means Dodge needs to wake up and get with the program. *HUGE SARCASM*

rest, comparable mid sized trucks, moron.
You saying the new dak did sell well? HA

Message: I actually see quite a few of the newer body style Daks. Then again, you see a ton of the Gen III models; however, if you look at the range of the year they were made (97 to 03) there is a greater percentage of a chance of your seeing them on the road then the 04-06 Gen IV Daks. 7 years vs 3 years. Big difference there. I do agree though that the new Daks don't look too mean. The Gen III body styling looks like a pitbull whereasa the Gen IV looks like a Shih-tzu. Dodge needs to listen to us Dakota owners and do a revamp on that front body styling. Just my opinion.

Message: Yeah I agree, but,
I am comparing to the rest of JUST the new body styles/models.
Interestingly enough, the new gm models, frontier, tacoma, and
dak all came out around the same time.. And out of all those, I sure
see way more of the other models than the new dak, by far.

Message: Well, I can't argue with you there. I can't really say I appreciate the Colorado/Canyon all that much, but I do see a lot more of those around than the new model Daks. I think the one thing that really irritates me most about the new Dakotas is how flimsy the sheet metal is compared to my 2000 model. The door on my rig is HEAVY, but when I slammed the door on a 2005 I test drove, it made a non-too-appealing "clunk" instead of a satisfying "thud".
I dunno, I think they could of done a lot of things different. I'm not sure if it just wasn't the same team that designed the Gen IIIs or what. It had a very GM feel as far as setup. The body panels remind me of a combination of the newer Siverados and Colorados kinda meshed together.
On the flip side, the newer Rams are just downright badass. I would love to have one if only I could afford one (and the fuel).
At any rate, I still stick by Mopar. I hope they just get their fingers out of their ears and listen to their fans about how unappealing the new Dakota design is to us.

Message: as a car sales man the main problem I belive is price. Yea they are uguly but for a fully loaded SLT v8 HO quad cab You can get the new ram with the 4.7 SLT quad cab for 3-4k more. So Pay the extra and get a full size truck is what I hear alot from customers. As a dealership we have sold 4 in 5 months. Trust me dodge knows the dakota needs some remodeling. Its a matter of time

I WAS DRIVING AROUND TODAY AND DIDN'T SEE A SINGLE NEW DAKOTA ON THE ROAD, MUST BE AN EPIDEMIC. MAYBE YOU SHOULD EMAIL CHRYSLER AND TELL THEM TO DROP THEIR DRAWERS AND GIVE THEM AWAY.
I'LL DROP SOME ACID TOMORROW AND MAYBE THE OTHER 20-30 DAKOTAS I SEE DAILY WILL LOOK NEW.
DRIVE IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT, THEN JUNK IT

Message: No, you're right. The Viper is nowhere near the same class as a Civic. But I don't put the Dakota anywhere near the class of those other mid-size trucks. That's my point. You pretty much said the Dakota isn't that great of a truck because YOU don't see many out there. I may be a moron, but I'm not going to make my opinions based on what other people are buying.

Message: I never said that selling more = better...
I in fact hate the gm models, a lot. And would take the new dak
with a V8 over the rest any day, besides a new tacoma that is,
and that is a fugly truck too.
But the overall quality feels way cheaper than the gen III's.
I'm not saying sells = better deal, but extremely bad sales DOES
tell you something, so that is my point.
like "that guy" said.. 4 new daks in 5 months? are you kidding
me man?

Message: Ok Hold on just a min guys. We can all agree that just 3 years ago the Dakota was no dout; the best midsize truck in one could get if you wanted the power of a fullsize stuffed into a smaller package. Also in some ways it was ABOVE AVERAGE.
But can you say the samething today?? No. U can't
With Nissan (and of course we would have laughed years ago)offering a V6 with more HP and just as much tourqe then the Dodge's 287 cid V8. Not to mention a great Off-Road deal and good hauling and towing capacity. It makes the New o5 Dakota look just average.
So my choice for a midsize today would be the Frontier.

Message: Mine would ne Tacoma... I hate Nissan's unreliability.. everyone I
know with nissan's hate them, and a co worker that has a new
frontier is selling it already. I'll ask him tomorrow at work wha
twent wrong with it, I forget what he say failed on it many times...
The Titan is just that much worse of a truck... parts that fall off
after one year? rust after 8 months? warped rotors worse than our
gen III daks?.. oh yeah, cuz they use the same brakes on the titan
as they do on the frontier... 3 magazines reported these incidents
on all their long term titan tests.

Message: Here in the Phoenix area, I see new Dak's all of the time.
Not that I would want one. I'll keep my Gen III.
Anyway, I saw a comparison once., The Frontier V6 is rated high on HP, but if I remember it did NOT come close to the 300 Ft Lbs of torque the 4.7 makes. Especially at grunt speeds!
