Message: OK im confused.....96 3.9. when i hit the gas it stumbles and pops like its not getting any gas but if i ease off just a little bit it kicks in and goes. i can be cruising down the highway in 5th gear and if i push it to the floor its almost like i hit the brakes it slows down that much. new plugs, wires, cap and rotor. could it be the fuel pump going out or maybe a sensor going out? i checked the codes and.....nothing. this ones got me stumped HELP PLEASE!!!! thx

Message: some say easier than dropping the tank is take the bed bolts out and slide the bed back a little.

Message: sounds like a fuel filter problem - when your filter starts to get plugged any time you place a demand upon your engine for more power it uses more fuel. But if the fuel can't get through to meet that demand it causes your engine to stumble and crap out like some wine soaked sot. I don't know why they don't put the fuel filter under the hood as they used to be placed to make them accessible. Maybe to make more moeny for the service dept. LOL

Message: one would think it's the fuel filter
same thing happened w/ me
some days the truck was roaring to go and i'd have to hold firm on the break.. other days it'd idle low and just about die..
i did everything you did..changed everything.. nothing worked until..
i poured this gunk cleaner in w/ the gas each fill up.. it gots rid of everything..and cleaned out the engine and gas tank.
comes in a white 1L bottle(very narrow tip on the end of 'er)...forgot what its called. canadian tire has it.
4 changes later (about a month--i drive everywhere)truck is running like butter.

Message: Isn't the fuel filter connected to the pump on the 96? Was on my old 95.
Does this happen at all levels of fuel? all the time?
Does it backfire? You said "pops". Could be a sensor. Temp guage working correctly?
Checked distributor pick up?

Message: ok its a 92 not a 96 dont know why i typed that. brain fart i guess. ok pulled the bed off checked the pump....everything kosher there. changed the filter....same thing still happens....changed MAP, Throttle position and Idle air control sensors......still doing it. its backfiring through the intake i have to keep the RPMs above 3 grand to pull out in first gear, second stalls it out....all the other gears, if it gets below about 2500 it starts stumbling and poping like its not getting anything and will just stall out if i push the clutch in and it will take a while to get it started again.......about ready to rip everything out of it and go ahead and drop the "new" old motor in and the only thing under there are the wires for the altenator, starter and battery. screw all the computer and sensor crap. AARRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!! ive stumped everybody with this one.

Message: backfiring can be caused by coolant temp sensor, crank position sensor, cam sensor, o2 sensor.
you never answered if you checked the distributor pick up?
have you checked to make sure the firing order is correct? plug wires are not arcing?

Message: I had a similar problem with a 76'jeep one time. The carbon cannister was leaking little particles of carbon into the carb and plugging the jets. Would run like crap! Now, the question is, do the newer vehicles and Daks even have such an emissons cannister anymore?

If it doesn't fit, force it. If it breaks...well...it needed to be replaced anyway.
