Subject: ABS controller??? Truspeed IP: Logged
Message: I just put on 20's with 275-45-20 tires, and although they changed the overall diameter slightly, I did not think it was enough to have my speedo recalibrated. I've had them for about 2 months now, and I just got pulled over for speeding. I was told I was going approx 57 in a 45, when I thought I was only going 50 or 51. Obviously my speedo is off by more than I thought.
Anyways, I am going to get that superlift truspeed device ($180) so that I can easily switch between my stock wheels and winter tires and my 20's and summer tires. My only question is: where is the abs controller located? I found a connector by the brake fluid reservoir which has a wire of the correct color (white with orange stripe), but I am not 100% sure that this is the correct wire.
Has anyone else installed this before, and is this the correct wire?
I have a 1999 2wd V6.
Thanks in advance

Message: you could spend about 100 more bucks and get a Superchips tuner. then you could correct for tire changes + more performance, read & reset codes, etc... check for them on e-vil bay. i think some have found them for around 280-290.

Message: That's a 30" diameter tire. Tell us what size was original, and someone here will tell you what your speedo difference is.

Message: I don't want to get superchips because I already have the venom 400 control module, and they will not work together, i have tried. My friend had superchips, let me put in on my truck, and with the v6 setting my venom was better. But they don't work together. I know that I can use the performance setting, but have you seen gas prices. Anyways, i already have a cheap ($30) code reader and resetter, so im fine in that area. My originals were were about 2 inches smaller. (235-75-15) i think. (i bought the truck used with 275/45/15s). I know that I can mentally calculate my speed difference, (if my speedo reads 65 im going 69), but if someone else drives my truck they won't account for that.
So what im hearing is no one has used truspeed or knows where the abs controller is?

Message: ABS Controller? there is the sensor on the rear diff for ABS but, i'm not sure what you mean by controller.
according to the sizes you gave and this site: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
your speedo is 14.3% fast. example- speedo reads 60mph, your actual speed = 51.4mph. so i think your further off than you think.
only thing that comes to mind is a custom flash or get the dealer to maybe change it for you. sorry i couldn't offer more.

Message: Here is the website for the install of the truspeed.
http://www.superlift.com/instructions/33002.pdf
page 4 has the chart which identifies that a 1999 dakota should connect to the white/orange wire in the abs controller C1, pin 12.
I was wrong about my original tire size. I have 275/45/20s on but my truck is supposed to have 215/75/15. The tires i replaced (the ones I bought the truck used with) were 275/60/15.
As of now, I don't want to get a flash because in the winter I will be putting my old wheels back on (salt chips chrome).
I might consider getting new tires on those, so I could get a custom flash, if this truspeed seems to be a bigger hassel than its worth, for my current tire size, then get same size tires to fit my 15s
