I was woundering if anyone has replaced the clutch on their a/c compressor. Mine is broken and I don't really want to have to replace the compressor. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

To replace the whole clutch ass'y you need a hub puller to remove the clutch/pulley. The pressure plate comes off relatively easy. I used a long common screwdriver with square edges to hold the plate between the small protrusions on the surface while I removed the hub nut with a socket and ratchet. If you pull this off, be very careful not to lose the shims (washers) underneath the pressure plate on the hub shaft.
These shims maintain the proper clearance when the clutch is not engaged.
Aside from getting a hub puller, the problem seems to be finding a new clutch/pulley ass'y. I looked into this because my A/C compressor pulley makes a squealing noise, but I could not find anyone who stocked just a pulley or clutch. My only option was to replace the entire compressor.

You can buy them but they rather sell you the whole thing. It's not a hard sell and they make a lot more money. If you have trouble getting one ordered, hit the wrecking yards. There good around here and if you get a bad one they give you another.

So many problems .... So little time
