first off i tried the searching with no luck and its late.
vehicle:2000 dodge dakota 3.9 2wd

I took my truck to a local mechanic for a new thermostat. The mechainc told me that the waterpump was fixing to die.. I picked it up today and drove it 5 miles home. the temp guage shot over in the red zone and the check gauge like came on. I popped the hood and there was antifreeze spewed all over my engine bay. and the resevoir was bone dry.

I called the mechainic and he said that it was most likely that his helper did not run the vehicle long enough after the swap. He said i should fill the resevoir with water and let idle for about 20-30 min. That should solve the problem. He thinks the thermostat did not open.

Well i had to run to work so i didn't get to do that. I plan on doing it this morning. My deal is,

what if that doesn't work and the truck is still overheating? what could be the other problems and can i fix it myself?

If they were supposed to have fixed it and messed up, take it back to them to have it corrected at their expense.

Did they put the new water pump in? Did the make sure to put new clamps on the new bypass hose, or did they reuse the original clamps on the original hose? I would definitely take it back and have them repair the f@#$ up!!!! Other than that, t-stats have been known to be bad from the box, and water pumps have been known to be bad if new or reman'ed.

If it doesn't fit, you're using the wrong hammer!
