Message: Hi. Can anyone tell me if the check engine code P0456 points towards a bad gas cap? Is there a way to clear it? I've checked the cap and it looks good, the gasket is in good shape and everything looks clean and smooth. I had this happen a couple of moths ago and I bought a replacement gas cap. That didn't clear the code but when I put the original cap back in, the code cleared. I thought it was done until the check engine light came on again yesterday. Much thanks in advance. - Scott

Message: Mine did it too. A guy from Canada told me what the problem was. I had a hard time believing that it was a gas cap problem, so I checked the sensor and examined the fuel lines, etc. Anyways -- none of that helped, then I just started making SURE the cap was screwed on really well (I did not replace it) and the code went a way and hasn't popped back up since. Just get it tight.

Message: I ended up putting the cap on and off about three times. Then I'd check it and the P0456 check engine light was staying on every time. So, I ended up disconnecting the battery (in an attempt to reset the system) for a few minutes (maybe 10) and then hooked it back up and voila, the damned check engine light went off. Frustrating, but at least it's gone (for now at least).
Thanks for the advice!
