Subject: Sway Bar Bushings? IP: Logged
Message: I'm looking for polyurethane swaybar bushings ( I was told these won't squeak like the factory ones do) for the front of a 2000 dodge dakota 4x4 quadcab 4.7lt v8.
I can't seem to find them anywhre, everyone has rear bushings but none for up front.
The squeak comes from front and seems to be louder, or posibly even only on the driver side. I'm assuming it's the swaybar bushings.
Anyone know of a place to buy these bushings? or ones similiar to it ?
Thanks for the help guys

Message: My factory stock 2001 QC Sport bushings are poly. They still squeak. Every 12-18 months I have to remove them and apply a little Mobile 1 synthetic wheel bearing grease to the end bushings.

Message: 2000 and newer i believe they switched to black poly bushings on the sway bars front and rear... could call your local dealer to see if they are poly.... could take one out and go to a speed shop and match them up to another set of poly bushings and use them.... usually coating them with wheel bearing grease takes car of them for squeeking..

to 2001.

Message: Stock 01 bushings are rubber with an insert of some sort, but definitely NOT poly bushings.
I have poly on my 01, all I have to do is remember where I bought them from.
I do believe they are Prothane - maybe for a durango?

Well, mine must be something special, then. I bought the truck new, and the sway bar bushings are poly.

Message: Well .boB either your was or mine wasn't - as I have the same identical truck.
Mine were definitely not poly - and since I have the poly in there now, I do know the difference :)

Simple. Use a 1/2" socket and remove the four bolts that hold the saddle brackets to the lower A-arms. The bar will swing down. Slide the bushings off the end like a donut. Wash with soap and water. Apply Mobile 1 synthetic wheel bearing grease, and slide them back on.
The trouble area seems to be the saddle bracket. Whenever mine start squeaking, that seems to be the dryest part. Once I tried to apply grease only to that area, and then put them back on. It stopped the noise, but only for a month or so. That's what happens when you get lazy.

Message: Mine are noisier than hell. They squeak when I get in. They
squeak if I pump the brakes. They make people turn and look
from a block away. Glad to find this old thread!

bye bye squeak. Before I got the lubricated bushings, I used to break the brackets a lot.
