Subject: 318 Rebuild IP: Logged
Message: My 318 is coming up to 130k, and it feels like some of the stock power has been lost due to wear and tear. The engine is running strong, but I was just wondering how much it would cost to have a shop do a rebuild on my engine. Thanks in advance.

Message: wow thats not much for a rebuild! i have 156k miles on the 318 and im still running in the 15 s down the 1/4. i would use some seafoam, restore, or injector cleaner.
not sure on the cost but dont think your going to gain much if you rebuild it.

Message: 130K isn't much for a 318. But if maint hasn't been done, it's been worked hard (like a Dodge should be), or it's been abused, a rebuild might be just the thing.
As for cost, that's really tough to tell. You really have to decide what you want, as now's your oppurtunity to build the engine specifically for your use. You could increase compression and install a cam tailored to your use for very little cost from places like Hughes Engines. Or you could just get a rebuilt long block from Pep Boys.
Check the web sites for prices on rebuilds and custom jobs.
Figure 15-20 hours to R&R your engine. Some parts will need to be removed from the old engine, cleaned, and installed on the new engine - valve covers, oil pan, etc. You'll want to replace things like the water pump, starter, hoses, belts, nuts & bolts, etc.
