Subject: Heater/AC Calibration for 02 Dak
IP: Logged

Message:
Anyone out there know what the heater/AC calibration procedure is for an 02 Dakota? I recently had the heater core replaced in mine and now the recirculate air function is not working quite right. It seems to almost always recirculate, when it should be drawing in outside air. I've heard that there is a calibration procedure for the HVAC system that "trains" the DC servo-motors where the various stop limits are for the doors and flaps in the HVAC system. If I can find out the procedure, I would give it a try before taking it back into the shop to get it looked at. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have never heard of servos in an automotive air system. Car's use vacuum lines and those plunger things. Even modern cars (2005-2006)use them. Sounds to me like whoever installed the heater core did not do it correctly. May have a door stuck open or shut.

Actually, in 2001 when the Dak interior was redesigned, they switched to an electronically controlled HVAC system. The newer Rams have the same setup. Actually, my wife's old 94 Subaru had electronic actuators in the HVAC system. So, it's not that uncommon.

Cool. I didn't know that. I know a lot of newer cars still use the vacuum to do it. Something could still be mis-installed.
