i have to replace a seal on the rack-n-pinion, i have it out of the truck just lost on how to get it apart? do i need a puller to pull where the rack-n-pinion connects to the steering shaft?

That's one reason I just replaced the whole unit.
For the price of the parts I needed, and my time, I decided it was better to install a rebuilt unit.
I had your same question, and never did find the answer. Sorry.

About 145,000 miles.
Don't remember the price, but you can find it
at partsamerica.com which is Advance Auto.
It was a rebuilt unit, but it looked good and I had no problems with the installation or the operation.

You should also clean and flush the power steering fluid at the same time. I used Seafoam to clean it, and filled it with Amsoil Universal Trans. Fluid.
