Subject: 1994 Dakota IP: Logged
Message: Hi! I have a general question about a 1994 or similar Dakota. I'm on my 4th Dak, a 2005. However, I'm building a Mopar hot rod out of a 47 Plymouth and in trying to find a later IFS front suspension, someone on another forum suggested a Dakota front end. I have two 1994s available in junkyards but I'm trying to find out what the front track width measurement is. I hit a local dealer yesterday and they don't carry old shop manuals anymore and were no help. So if anyone knows, I'd appreciate the info. Thanks. Barry

Message: have you thought about a aspen/volare it,s a left to right or side to side torsion bar, bolt in k frame,it,s a self contained unit with motor mounts
the cordobas, furys etc had these also in the mid to late 70,s into the late 80,s
just a thought and they make a good street rod front susp.

Message: Vern: Yes I have. It has a 60-inch tread width which is slightly wider than the 47 Plymouth. However, it doesn't have the R&P steering I need to make room for the 291 DeSoto hemi I plan to use. However, it's still an option. Also, if the Dakota IFS is the correct width, I still have to figure out the 6-bolt rotor aspect to get back to 5 on 4 1/2-inch bolt pattern. I have heard from salvage yard guys that a 5 lug rotor was available for Daks but no confirmation yet. Thanks again Vern

Message: Thanks jason 61. Still need a tread width for the 94. Do you know the bolt pattern for those 87-90 5-lug rotors? I suspect they're 5 on 5-inch instead of the 5 x 4 1/2 that would match a B-body rear axle. However, the rear tread on the 47 is 60-inches which might match an 88-90 Dakota rear with 5 lugs. Thanks for the heads up on the rotors. I'll have to wait on the rotors til I decide what to put on the 47. Thanks again, Barry

Message: ah you're right about the 5 on 5 (i believe)... I'm not sure about a tread width however... but no problem about the rotors... they were going to end up in the scrapper anyways if no one wanted them because they wont work on my dakota (6 lug and if I swap to 5 lug i am just going to purchase slotted rotots)
