Subject: 93 Dakota Frame IP: Logged
Message: Hi all, I have a 1993 Dakota 4x4 non club cab with the short wheel base. My frame is rusting through and I am looking to replace the entire frame. I don't want to give up on this truck since it has been the best vehicle that I have ever owned and runs great. My question is are the 4x4 and 2 wheel drive frames the same because the 2 wheel drives are easier to locate. If they are not the same and I was to look for another frame, would the 4x4 frames be the same up to 1996? Any infomation will be helpful. Thank you.

Message: Bet you'll find more re-enforcing on the 4X4 frame. Ask your friendly welder what it'll cost to upgrade. You might also think about adding things you dream of like shock absorber mounts, extra fuel tank hangers, conversion to Rack and Pinion steering, etc.
Since it is naked, look into having it powder coated, or maybe (seriously) Rhino Coated. The bed liner stuff should protect against rust too.
How did the frame almost rust through and you don't say anything is wrong with the body?

Message: I have a 1994 Dodge Dakota Sport 4x4. The other
week, the steering felt odd on the way home. I
thought it might be time to replace the tie rod ends
but after taking a look, I saw that the frame gave
out where the steering box bolts to the frame. I
just want to pass it along because of the safety
factor. Failure at almost any speed would not be
good for the Dakota driver or the person he hits.

Message: Same thing just happened to my 92 Dakota. The
frame is rock-solid everywhere else, and so is the
body. I turned the steering wheel, and the
steering box torques slightly. Having it welded
this week. This is not an area where you would
notice rust unless you knew to look for this
problem.
