Message: I have a 98 5.2L ext cab automatic with 125k miles. i had a bent fan blade that wore out the bearings in my water pump. i replaced the water pump, belt and upgraded to an electric fan and now it won't start. it will turn but it won't fire. my battery did die during the install but we jumped it and it started after we installed the waterpump but before the fan.
i've tried replacing the auto shutdown relay and put in new spark plugs. i've also reset the PCM with no luck. can anyone help???

Message: You've likely checked these, but what about the coil lead, any of the plug/distributor wires, or any other electrical stuff? I've inadvertantly disconnected things while working on other parts, and had to track down the disconnect. It sounds like a fire problem, not fuel, right?
By the way, did you disconnect the PCM? Sometimes when you pull that big plug, it doesn't seat exactly right when it goes back in. Good luck - post how things go.

Message: Did you load test the battery. Your parts emporium should do it free. Not enough healthy juice, all the electronics won't work.
Since it worked BF, before fan, disconnect it and try.

Message: I did try several times without the fan connected. and all distributor wires are plugged in. I haven't disconnected anything from the PCM either.
How do i check for spark??? do i just take out a spark plug, plug the wire on, and try to crank it and look for a spark???
I have to get a gas can today and throw a few gallons in because there is a chance someone cyphened gas out. i hope it's this simple.
also, i did have the battery checked and charged at an autozone, my contacts had some corrosion but i sanded all that off.

Message: My grandpa, a carpenter, said "measure twice, cut once." Maybe he didn't invent it, but the philosophy works here.
Stop throwing parts at it, take a break and think.
Maybe, take a break and don't think.
When you concentrate too hard you get "Target Fixation" and can do things like fly into the ground. Or keep ignoring the obvious loose wire.

Message: exactly what shatto said. you can save yourself alot of money, beer and you wont kick your dog nearly as much if you put the "shotgun" away.
pull a few plug wires one at at time, stick a screwdriver (with a good amount of handle on it for insulation) in the end of each wire and hold it about 1/2 inch above the block or valve cover or something conductive while someone else cranks the motor over. what color is the spark? if its yellowish, its weak. but if its nice and blue/white, your good for spark. if bad, clean the contacts in your distributor/rotor and see if it gets better. a coil should have a resistance value to test, but i dont know where this value could be found.
get a fuel pressure gauge, there should be a schrader valve on your fuel rail to attach this to. fuel psi should be around 60 at idle and 90 at higher rpms. if you have low fuel psi, id think the pump.
i havent taken delivery of my dak yet, so im just giving some numbers that i think should be average but they should help. does anyone know what the fuel press readings actually are? am i close?
also, where does the fan plug in? is there a factory harness for a fan and is the truck equipped with a thermal switch from the factory? if you had to wire the fan in, you didnt just choose a wire and splice into it, did you?

Message: When I drove around with a gauge under the wiper, pressure was around 14lb, as I recall. But mine is a 6, so that may not count.

Message: the fan is hooked up to the switched cigarette ligter circuit. i tested the fuel pump lead and there is no voltage going to it. i used a buddy's OBD II scanner to see if any codes popped up but it wouldn't link. the manual says that if it doesn't link there could be a problem communicating with the PCM.
Does anyone know if there is another fuse for the fuel pump or PCM other than the ones located at the power distirbution block under the hood?

Message: try tapping the fuel pump relay with a small wrench or somthing when trying to start the truck. this will tell you if your relay is stuck or not.or switch the fuel pump relay with another relay, perhaps the asd relay or horn or headlamp. theyre all the same.
